ARTIST KAY HARDEN’S NEW EXHIBIT
“REDWOOD CREEK AUTUMN”
OPENS NOVEMBER 3 IN EUREKA

Award-winning local artist Kay Harden opens her latest full exhibit of landscapes on November 3 in Eureka at the offices of Barnum & Herman (525 2nd Street, Suite 211 in the Vance Hotel). Titled "Redwood Creek Autumn," this exhibit was inspired by a weekend spent one late October in eastern Humboldt County at the Redwood Creek Watershed. The experiences Harden captured include brilliant sunsets, mixed stands of forest and dramatic hillside panoramas.

“’Redwood Creek Autumn’ is an impressionistic rendition of an almost overwhelming experience I had last fall at a remote location in Humboldt County,” said Harden. “No matter which way you looked in the late afternoon, the play of light, shadows and stunning landscapes were an instant inspiration. The parade of fall colors changed as I watched the afternoon fade into evening. The next day, the morning light created an entirely new feeling and it’s this incredible emotional and sensory experience that I am sharing with this exhibit.”

Harden’s distinctive style, perfected after many years as a working artist, is a layering of hundreds of thousands of tiny pen strokes, producing a rich blend of textures that create a one-of-a-kind effect. Harden uses rapidograph pens and a full palette of acrylic inks.

“Redwood Creek Autumn” will be on display through November 30 and joins other pieces of Harden’s work that are on permanent display at Barnum and Herman. Office viewing hours are Monday through Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Special viewing appointments can be made by calling 707-442-6405.

Other works by Kay Harden are on exhibit at AG Edwards (318 5th Street, Eureka) and the Scotia Medical Center in Scotia.

In August, 2007, Harden was awarded first place for her work at the California State Fair in Sacramento.
